Clean Economy Employment Now (CLEEN) Project

Invited by the CLEEN Project to participate, Unovis submitted a National School Lunch Program (NSLP) policy proposal implementing Meatless Mondays with a transition to all plant-based. The CLEEN Project was created to provide federal leaders with highly actionable “clean economy” job creation ideas. In response to President Biden’s climate-action plan requiring every federal agency, department, and program to address climate, Unovis chose to address the NSLP. It is the second largest food and nutrition assistance program in the United States and implementation of the Meatless Monday proposal would:
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce air and water pollution
  • Support sustainable, plant-based farming and incentivize farmers in all regions of the U.S.
  • Address institutional racism and known health harms in the NSLP
  • Incentivize food companies – especially the food service sector – to develop more plant-based products
